Community Resiliency
$917,000 Raised for Jamaica
UWTT’s “Our Hearts Are With Jamaica” Campaign, launched in October 2025, raised TTD $917,000. UWTT, along with Southern Sales and Services Limited, bp Trinidad and Tobago, Republic Bank Limited, Atlantic LNG, TSTT, and other individuals, contributed to support relief and recovery efforts in Jamaica following the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The funds have gone to our regional partner, United Way of Jamaica’s relief and recovery action plan. Learn more about UWJ’s plan here.
Climate Education
Chief Executive Officer of United Way Trinidad and Tobago, Gail Sooknarine and Community Impact Officer, Aliya Ali-Khan attended the United Way Worldwide Community Resiliency Convening in Virginia, USA in December 2025. The Convening brought together United Ways from across the Americas, US NGOs and private sector organizations to share community resiliency initiatives and strategies. The UWTT team is excited to incorporate the new lessons from this gathering in our own projects and programmes.
Youth Opportunity
CKFTO Diverse Learning Styles Training
30 educators attended the CKFTO teacher training in December 2025. The session was the first of three teacher development workshops to increase classroom competency around diverse learning styles and abilities. These educators represented 12 schools, and their increased competency will benefit 3377 students.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
We celebrated with our educators at our annual end of year luncheon, with 16 teachers and 6 principals attending. UWTT CEO, Gail Sooknarine lead the first session, encouraging participants to reflect on their purpose, and the year’s successes and challenges. Families In Action lead attendees in engaging and hands-on team building exercises. View a recap of our educators’ successes here.
Financial Stability
During our Community Conversations, many families expressed increased financial instability and vulnerability following the termination of CEPEP, URP and other government contracts. In response, UWTT increased our Family Cash Grant from $500 to $1000, ensuring the intervention meets a realistic threshold for short- term household support. Grants were given to 66 families across our Building Bridges Programme schools in 10 communities across Trinidad.
Healthy Communities
Families In Action launched its fifth cohort of the Building Stronger Families Programme. FIA held seven workshops, reaching 4 schools and over 40 participants. The
programme offers workshops for parents and caregivers, developing parenting skills and a peer support network of other parents.
