UWTT February–March 2024 Newsletter: Strengthening Equity, Expanding Partnerships, and Preparing Students for Success

United Way Trinidad and Tobago’s February–March 2024 Newsletter highlights key partnerships, including a technology donation from Lange Trinidad Limited, the national launch of the 2024 Day of Caring, continued Classroom Assistant training, and a generous SEA-season donation to Belmont Boys’ R.C. from VEMCO/Super Cow.

The first quarter of 2024 was an active and purposeful period for United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT), marked by new partnerships, continued investment in classroom support, and preparations for the annual national volunteer movement—the United Way Trinidad and Tobago Day of Caring. Across February and March, UWTT focused on connecting resources to build resilience, support learning environments, and strengthen equity across vulnerable communities.

Lange Trinidad Limited Donates Computer Towers to Support School Technology Access

In February, UWTT received a donation of four computer towers from Lange Trinidad Limited.

Recognising the critical role technology plays in student development, UWTT matched these devices to schools that would benefit most—strengthening their digital learning capabilities and expanding access to essential classroom tools.

This contribution supports UWTT’s ongoing work to improve resource equity and level the playing field for students across the country.

UWTT Day of Caring 2024 — Media Launch

On 29 February 2024, UWTT officially launched the 11th United Way Trinidad and Tobago Day of Caring at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.

The Day of Caring will take place on Sunday 19 May 2024, united under the theme:

“Show You Care Everywhere”

The launch highlighted the power of collective employee volunteerism, which has been the heartbeat of the movement since 2013. The initiative continues to mobilise both private and public sector organisations, encouraging volunteers to uplift communities, strengthen resilience, and demonstrate that everyone deserves equal opportunities to succeed.

Strengthening National Partnerships: Meeting with the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service

UWTT met with:

  • The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service
  • Narine Charran, Permanent Secretary
  • Gachelle Gilkes-Edwards, National Service Coordinator

The discussion explored mutual priority areas—particularly Education and Youth Development—and focused on shared opportunities for impact. UWTT looks forward to continued knowledge-sharing and collaboration in service of national progress.

Classroom Assistant Training Continues (March–April 2024)

UWTT continued its mentorship and professional development sessions for Classroom Assistant Trainees (CATs) as part of the Building Bridges Programme.

The training helps trainees better support:

  • Infant teachers
  • First-time school entrants
  • Children adapting to new behaviours post-pandemic
  • Students learning through play, movement, language development and early socialisation

This ongoing investment ensures that schools receive the hands-on support needed to help young learners thrive.

VEMCO Donation Brings Joy to Students Ahead of SEA

Just before the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) in March 2024, volunteers from VEMCO/Super Cow visited Belmont Boys’ R.C. Primary School, distributing:

  • Goodie bags
  • Over 500 packs of milk, generously donated through their buy-one-give-one campaign

The visit uplifted students during a crucial time and reinforced how corporate partners can directly support children preparing for major academic milestones. UWTT was proud to connect VEMCO to the school as part of the Show You Care Everywhere initiative.
