UWTT Champions Appreciation 2024: Re-Connect. Re-Engage. Re-Energize.

United Way Trinidad and Tobago hosted its first post-pandemic Champions Appreciation Event on June 18, 2024, honouring long-standing corporate Champions and partners who have supported volunteerism, workplace giving, and community impact. The event celebrated the success of Day of Caring 2024 and highlighted UWTT’s future programmes, including the ALICE initiative.

United Way Trinidad and Tobago (UWTT) hosted its first post-pandemic Champions Appreciation Event on Tuesday 18 June 2024, at the Courtyard by Marriott. The gathering brought together board members, committee members, and Champions—many of whom have supported UWTT since its inception in 1999—for an evening dedicated to recognition, reconnection and renewed energy.

The event closely followed the success of the 2024 United Way Day of Caring, held on 19 May, which mobilised more than 2,000 Care Ambassadors who executed over 55 community projects, touching the lives of nearly 20,000 beneficiaries across Trinidad and Tobago. The Appreciation Event honoured the individuals and organisations who made such a national movement of generosity possible.

Celebrating the Heart of UWTT’s Mission

The event’s theme—Re-Connect. Re-Engage. Re-Energize.—reflected UWTT’s commitment to rebuilding the spirit of volunteerism and strengthening partnerships after the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Champions representing 60 companies were recognised for their central role in:

  • Supporting UWTT’s Day of Caring
  • Championing the Workplace Employee Giving Campaign
  • Advancing impact in Education, Family Wellbeing, Equity, and Disaster Resilience

Champions remain an essential link between UWTT and the corporate community, helping mobilise staff volunteers and sustain long-term giving.

Acknowledging Leaders, Partners and Long-Standing Supporters

The evening was hosted by Master of Ceremonies Joel Aming, who set a warm and celebratory tone for the event.

Key Speakers Included:

• Gail Sooknarine — Chief Executive Officer, UWTT

She reflected on the immense value corporate Champions bring to UWTT’s mission, particularly through sustained giving and a return to volunteerism after the pandemic.

• Kendall Teloka — Resource Development Manager

He reinforced the importance of continued engagement and highlighted how corporate champions remain central to building thriving communities.

• Mitchell De Silva — Director, Citibank

He energised attendees with insights into UWTT’s future direction, spotlighting the upcoming ALICE Programme (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) focused on uplifting vulnerable working families and improving economic mobility.

Honouring Don La Foucade for Outstanding Service
